Kroehn's Landing - Australia Day 2007

A large crowd of us descended on Kroehn's Landing, near Walker's Flat for the annual public holiday day out on the river. 2 boats, around 7 jetskis and around 30 people for a great day in the sun.

The boys left early and the conditions that met us were simply perfect - a glasslike mirror surface devoid of ripples or waves, which we promptly destroyed with the launching of the jetskis and the matrix wakeboard boat.

There were a few interesting spills:

Sure'N was looking confident as he started this one, but we all knew it would end badly:

Likewise myself:

All told it was a great day out, even if the wind picked up and made skiing for rest of the day somewhat unmanageable, finished off with a BBQ dinner by the riverside.

Canon S3si Powershot

Well, while we were away in Berri over the holidays, right in the middle of taking some photos, the virtually brand new S3 decides to die, with the LCD cracking right up the middle.

Despite very careful looking after, this has happened, but I was confident that a warranty repair could be arranged, because, hey, it happened pretty much by itself.

Boy was I wrong!

In comes repair bill of just under $150 from canon. After speaking with numerous people, and wasting multiple hours, what it boils down to is this:

A canon repair supervisor has never seen a LCD fault *not* caused by the owner, therefore, I must have dropped the camera or dropped something on to the camera causing the screen to break.

This is despite there being no physical damage to the outside of the camera at all suggesting that this had happened. When I tried to ask what sort of physical force needed to be applied, despite having previously been told he was the "expert on LCDs at canon" he was unable to tell me, leaving me in a position of a camera coming back from repair that will no doubt have a high chance of "breaking" again by similar, normal use. IE; taking photos!

After 30 minutes of being on the phone, I was "rewarded" with 50% discount of the repair bill, which I was basically forced to accept in order to get my camera back in working order.

Mental note - Do not buy another Canon camera (despite being a happy canon customer in the past with other digital cameras, printers etc...)

Twenty20 Cricket

Was able to go to Adelaide Oval last night for the SA vs QLD Twenty20 match. Great crowd of 13,400 in attendance got to see Tait demolish the QLD top order for a win for the Redbacks.

Weather was great, the oval looked fantastic, and the level of cricket superb, with 6's and 4's all over the shop. Seeing Chris Perren have his stumps explode after a Tait yorker was awesome too!
