Massive server crash

On Monday afternoon, the cubicle server had a massive dummy spit and kept blue screening every 15 minutes. It appeared to be a network issue, as safe mode boot without network was fine, but any boot with network live would trigger the problem.

Migrated all the data to removable storage and built a new server up yesterday. Migrated all data and mail services etc... this morning, and server is back up and running now. Just need to migrate user accounts over and it should all be back to normal, except for this this server being a 2.8Ghz P4 instead of the PII 450 it was before :)

SSH for the webcam uploads is back online as well, so the webcam should be a goer as well.

No more guestbook

I have removed the guestbook facility as it was being spammed continuously. Did go thru it and find some private entries from friends who had wanted to get in touch (leave email!!!) so said hello :)

Feel sorry for the Austrian who wanted an Australian to say hi over webcam for new years eve tho. Guess you lost that bet huh. Better luck next year.

Peeve for the day (and nearly every day) are school students who don't stand for full fare passengers, or who fill a seat with bags. No I don't want *that* seat - its got mud and water from your bag all over it.

Photos from Mt Hotham snow trip are up!

Just posting up the photos from the snow trip now!

You can check them out at:

Mt Hotham Photos

On another note, here is my new toy, a Vosonic 8360 with 120GB HD:

It has flash card reader and DVR capablilty, which made it invaluable when taking it to the snow. Just dumped in the cards and backed up for the digital camera. Still experimenting with the record function, but it seems OK!

Webcam is back on!

The webcam is active again. The page has been revised, with a javascript controlling 30 second refresh. It works well with IE, showing in the status bar the clock count until refresh, but the script doesn't do this for firefox. If anyone can help with that, leave a comment :)

Snowboard Roadtrip to Mt Hotham

Mike, Richie, Sure'N and myself got together for the road trip to Mt Hotham over the weekend, with a couple of days travel either side.

Left Wednesday 9th in the afternoon, and travelled to Swan Hill. Stayed there overnight, and drove to Bright on the Thursday. We organised food, chains and snowboard waxing while at Bright, and stayed there overnight. Met up with Kent and Erin Knight who happened to be going up to the snow as well.

Left Bright (after a quick dip in the freezing pool) and got to Hotham early on Friday morning. Organised our room quick smart, and board hire for me and Richie, and hit the slopes. Sure'N hit the slopes harder than he thought and unfortunately broke his wrist within hours of being at the snow. The rest of Friday was spent at the medical centre hoping nothing was too wrong (beside all the other problems he has).

There was a teacher who came rushing in looking for one of his kids. The class was leaving after a week in the snow in only a few hours with no problems until one of them had a nasty crash. Within minutes, another kid from his class was admitted. Score - Mt Hotham 2 - Teacher 0. One anterior cruciate ligament and one fractured collarbone.

Sure'N came out with left hand encased in plaster and bandage, and off we went to the rooms. At least he could still play a little of Burnout 3 on the Xbox. Had tea at Swindler's that night after conning a table ahead of the massive queue.

Had an early-ish night and kicked off with the boarding again for another fantastic day of clear sky and no clouds. Went hard until mid afternoon, and retired to the room until night skiing started at the Big D.

The helmet cam went into operation and got some great footage, and plenty of photos. Had some nice stacks on the ice like surface, which bothered Richie not at all.

Sunday was quiet, with Mike taking the day off, and me and Richie hit the slopes for some great last day action. Drove back down to Bright, dropped some gear off and then headed to Echuca for the night. Had tea at the usual pub and then settled in. Left early in the morning, and headed back home, making it back around 4:00pm Monday.

Great holiday, and great to be home. Photos will be up soon...

In the meantime also spending some time redesigning the website. Hopefully all the photo galleries will be themed the same way etc... and most of the old pages back in sync with the new design. I can tell its going to take some time!
